Indian Population Census report

The Census of India is the process of collecting, compiling, analyzing, and publishing demographic, economic, and social data of all the people in India. The census is conducted by the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The census is conducted every 10 years, with the most recent census conducted in 2011.

According to the 2011 Census of India, the total population of India was 1.21 billion, with a population density of 382 people per square kilometer. The sex ratio (number of females per 1,000 males) was 940, and the literacy rate was 74.04%.

The population of India is divided into various religious groups, with the largest group being Hindus (79.8%), followed by Muslims (14.2%), Christians (2.3%), and Sikhs (1.7%). Other religious groups, including Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis, make up the remaining 1.3%.

The 2011 census also revealed that the population of India is becoming increasingly urbanized, with 31.16% of the population living in urban areas. The majority of the population is concentrated in the northern and western regions of the country. The population is also becoming increasingly diverse, with more than 2,000 ethnic groups and more than 1,600 languages spoken in India.

In addition to providing information on population, the census of India also collects data on housing, education, employment, and other socio-economic indicators. This data is used to inform government policy and planning, and to help understand the social and economic structure of the country.
